While this blog may have a lot of smaller purposes, it really only has one main reason for existing: to provide valuable information to you, the reader, at no cost. I’ve been dong that for years in group trainings, mentoring others, and providing psychotherapy, but this blog lets me extend my reach across both the world and the years, and for that I’m grateful.
Even though these articles may be read by a lot of people, I try to write as if I were talking to you in a one-to-one setting. I don’t know if it always comes across that way, but I’m always working on it.
Being a psychologist is a benefit in a way because it has allowed me to have a lot of experience listening to people’s stories and perhaps more importantly, being witness to the suffering (and the joys) in their lives. In some ways in this setting it can also be a disadvantage, as it can create a barrier in which I’m seen as an “expert.” I really don’t view myself that way; I think of myself as more of a “fellow traveler;” I have no illusions that my own struggles in life are any different that those of anyone else. Anything that makes me seem like “the person up there” who has more answers, makes me nervous; not because I fear failure, but because it does not reflect truth. The last thing I need to do is disempower you in an effort to make myself look like a big shot.
This blog is about self-improvement in the fullest sense of the word. I could probably attract more readers if I did a lot of articles that suggest there is some easy formula for happiness or a trouble free life. I think my readers deserve more than that.
The reality is that there are a lot of paradoxes in life; we can oversimplify things at times, but more often we probably make things more difficult than they need to be. So I try to stay direct and to the point as much as possible.
The truth is there, we just have to keep chipping away at it until we can see it more clearly.

Hi Barry,
Thanks for visiting my blog. I went through some of your stuff and the narratives is interesting. As you know from my blog, I am currently seeing a shrink (again) and wonder how I can just deal with problems wiser than present.
I hope I will be reading more of your sightful articles in the future.
Hey Parvita
Thank you for leaving your comment. I’m glad you enjoyed the article. Please come back often. I’m sure I’ll be visiting yours to see what’s up.
Best to you
Barry
